There are many forms of psychological therapy but Hypnotherapy is distinctive in that it attempts to address the client’s subconscious mind. The Hypnotherapist may utilise a wide range of techniques, from story telling, utilising the client’s own imagination, to metaphor or symbolism as well as direct suggestions for beneficial changes. Analytical techniques may also be employed in an attempt to uncover problems deemed to lie in a client’s past, or therapy may concentrate more on a client’s current life and presenting symptoms.
Key Points You Should Know
- Trance (or altered state of awareness) is a naturally occurring state we go in and out of throughout the day. For example whilst driving a familiar route, you suddenly realise you are driving down your street and it’s as if you arrived there on ‘automatic’. You don’t remember consciously doing it.
- You are always in control.
- You will not do anything you don’t wish to ; This is not stage hypnosis.
- You will not reveal anything private you don’t wish to.
- You will not be ‘manipulated’.
- You can terminate a session any time you choose just by opening your eyes.
- I’m a full member of British Society of Clinical Hypnosis and its Code of Conduct.
- Everything is confidential.
- I may work alongside the client’s G.P.

Hypnotherapy: What You Should Know (7/12/2015) - Using Hypnosis we aim to deal with problems at their source by direct communication with your subconscious mind - the root of all your habits Just when you think it’s not going to work… (7/5/2015) - Spring is that time of year when people look at their bodies and think it's time to reduce some weight now! Just before Easter I had just such a client, let's call her Ann. Ann was at least 3 stone overweight and decided enough is enough and came to see me... However, one of the friends rang me and asked if I could see all 3 of them on the same day one after the other. I was reluctant.
“I should have come to see you 20 years ago!” (December 2015) - "Hi Denise! Amazing powers and I am no longer a nail biting person! A few times I've caught myself hand going to mouth then stop myself with the "you don't do that anymore". Now trying to think of the next thing to fix lol. Thank you so much, I should have come to see you 20 years ago! Cheers L.D." “Meeting with Denise just a few times for anxiety issues has changed my life” (March 2015) - "It is no exaggeration that Denise has saved my life. Before we met I was struggling with a debilitating anxiety which presented itself as regular intense chest pain. Over time I stopped enjoying life, I was so afraid of the terrifying chest pains that I stopped going out with friends and I rarely enjoyed spending time with my children, life really did not feel worth living. Meeting with Denise just a few times for anxiety issues has changed my life. I very rarely get chest pains now and if I do Denise has given me the tools to deal with it. I feel like a new person, I'm so much happier and I'm enjoying life again. Denise is a very warm and caring person and there were moments where she gave me strength I didn't even know I had."Mrs. S. - Twickenham - March 2015 “It was like some of my pain was being released from my heart…” (October 2013) - "Hi Denise, your work was such an inspiration to me. Your strategies were right on the mark, especially with that whole breathing exercise. I've never believed in that in all these years, but how you taught it and with your calming voice it felt really real, it was like some of my pain was being released from my heart every time I did it. The elastic band and grounding rock was another good strategy, and your hypnosis work helped lots, even when I was in distress. I would always leave feeling calmed and determined to go away and work on what we had planned. You were always very patient very kind and came across very calming and soothing to me. I always enjoyed coming to my sessions."
