Before You Think – You Know

Your Brain’s Fastest Superpower
Have you ever had a gut feeling but ignored it, only to regret it later?
We all possess intuition, yet most of us have been taught not to trust it. Some don’t even know what intuition is. Why?
Because we have been brought up to believe that logic is the only way to make decisions. Furthermore, we don’t trust our intuition. After all, no one taught us.
Intuition is your nervous system and subconscious mind processing information faster than your conscious mind ever could.
Intuition isn’t woo-woo or a special gift. Most often, it shows up as a felt sense, a gut feeling, or a calm, quiet knowing. It feels clear and neutral, a strong sense of ‘YES.’
Intuition v Anxiety
Some people mistake anxiety for intuition because it often feels strong, pushy and panicked.
- Intuition: “This doesn’t feel right”
- Anxiety: “Something terrible is going to happen!”

How to Train Your Intuition
- Slow down. Breathe more fully into the moment, until a shimmer of peace arises. The best things happen from a place of inner safety and relaxation.
- Check your body. Ask: “Does this feel expansive or contracting?”
- Remove urgency. Give yourself space to think. If a decision feels rushed, it’s likely driven by fear rather than by intuition.
- Practice with small decisions. Build trust gradually (what to eat, who to call, when, etc.).
- Tune in often and get to know your intuition. Remember, intuition doesn’t shout; it’s quiet and calm, and so easy to miss. Often it’s our first thought.
Something to Think About
Ask yourself: “Where in my life might I already know the answer, but am not yet trusting it?”
Your intuition is not something you need to find; you need to create internal space and calm to receive it. That’s all. Don’t overthink it. It is truly wonderful when you come to know it and live by it; your life flows with ease and joy.
However, be aware that the anxiety demons, who have taken up residence in your nervous system, will throw a fit about this, so you need to know how to calm your system down first and feel stable in that calm.
Before trying to “hear” your intuition, it helps to first calm and regulate the nervous system. There are many techniques.
A simple one is box breathing: inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 4, and hold again for 4. Repeating this a few times can create a sense of steadiness and safety, allowing the mind to quieten and intuition to come through more clearly.
Intuition often speaks through the four clairs
- Clairvoyance clear seeing
Intuitive images, symbols, flashes, or mental pictures. - Clairsentience clear feeling
Sensing emotions, energy, or physical feelings, intuitively. - Clairaudience clear hearing
Inner words, phrases, sounds, or guidance that seem to arise quietly within. - Claircognizance clear knowing
A deep inner knowing or certainty without logical explanation.
We all experience intuition differently. The more settled and safe the nervous system feels, the easier it is to recognise the subtle ways in which intuition communicates with us. I’ll leave you with a quote from a wonderful spiritual teacher.
The quieter you become, the more you can hear.
